S. 744 the “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act” passed The Senate Judiciary Committee by a bipartisan vote of 13 to 5 last night.  In finalizing and passing the bill, The Committee waded through 300 amendments filed by Senators in the period of one week.

The bill is now scheduled to come to the Senate floor where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has vowed to bring up the bill quickly.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) has comprehensively catalogued all of the amendments offered and daily debates on those amendments available here.

The bill still has to be passed by the Senate, then the House, then signed by the President before becoming law. More changes are expected. Stay tuned!
